This post contains spoilers for the movie "Mirror, Mirror."
For starters, Armie Hammer is super h-a-w-t, hawt. Lily Collins, though, has eyebrows the size of small trees. Don't get me wrong, she's pretty, but her eyebrows were distracting. They give her character and that's wonderful, but I couldn't concentrate on much else when she was in the shots. On the subject of the actors' acting, though, Armie Hammer was not that great and neither was Lily Collins. Julia Roberts would have been great, but they tried too hard to make her character dastardly and funny, which doesn't go over too well for female actors.
When I saw the costumes, I thought, "This is going to be sort of like Marie Antoinette (the movie)," and I was extremely correct. The characters had big dresses, big hair, wore tremendously bright colors. They were pretty enough, but there was little contrast in the movie aside from the dwarves, whose outfits were just ridiculous (they looked like pajamas). I was also disappointed in the animation, which was really gaudy and fake-looking.
The plot was also super strange. To begin with, they made Snow White a really horrible Mary Sue, which is a perfect girl in a story. She learned how to use a sword in like a day, she was "incredible beautiful," and she could do household things wonderfully. She was too perfect, and even though this is a fairy tale, no one should be that perfect. The prince was also awfully written, as I couldn't tell if he was sympathetic to the queen in some parts or not. He decided not to leave with his servant in the beginning, which is something any sensible person would have done, and when Snow White allied herself with the dwarves, he went back to the evil queen. He knew he loved Snow, and he knew the queen was crazy, but he still left Snow in the woods and went back to the queen. At least the queen was evil, even if she tried too hard to be funny.
The only group of people I could think of that would actually like this movie are children, which is what the movie is aimed at, I guess. Still, if you are an adult with thoughts of seeing this movie, don't. Unless you're at someone's house and they own, don't watch it, rent it, or buy it. It's not that great, it's mediocre at best. Only watch it with your kids, and even then, I'm not sure they'll enjoy it. I give it a four out of ten.
