Christmas Carols

'Tis the season to sing Christmas songs. As we get closer and closer to the day itself, it seems that the songs get louder and more frequent on the radio. It is hard to not know any Christmas songs, though, simply because of their frequency. When they start playing the songs right after Halloween, though, it gets a little bit ridiculous.

Many people, myself included, know so many Christmas songs. They are relatively simple, as most have the same message and include many of the same words. My personal favorite is Louis Armstrong's "White Christmas" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Jx0yDTrot4). Many of these songs can put people in a good movie. When the world's going to pieces, like it is now, we need a little joy and cheer in our lives. That's what this music does for me.

It bothers me when people don't enjoy Christmas music. I don't mean the music itself, I'm talking about the messages. They have good messages about how giving is better than recieving, how joyful it is to walk in the snow, and how being with someone you care about on Christmas can be the best present ever. It's hard to listen to these and be in a bad mood, but it is possible. There are Scrooges in this world that just seem to want to rip apart the Christmas season and burn it in front of the rest of the world.

Bah humbug to them, then. Christmas is about being thankful and spending time with loved ones. The music is super important to that because it plays a role in spreading the Christmas cheer that we should have all year round. Feelings of happiness and contentment should not just come once a year when we break out the gifts, but every day. Maybe we should just play Christmas music all the time. Sure, it would get annoying, but they honestly have better messages than a lot of songs nowadays.

In retrospect, maybe that's not such a good idea, but the plan behind it still stands. This will be my Christmas wish: for everyone to be cheerful. It is too optimistic to believe that it will happen, but I desperately hope it will.
