I had sampled other comedic exploits of Demetri Martin. He used to have a television show on Comedy Central called "Important Things with Demetri Martin." It contained short sketches, observational humor, and songs about random things Demetri thinks is funny. His drawings, in my opinion, are the most humorous pieces of work that he does. For example, here's one of his drawings:

His humor is more like sarcasm than anything. He uses things at his disposal, like a drawing pad or his talent at playing the guitar and the harmonica, while he talks about humorous things like (examples from the book) irritating ways people could use etc., the problems of being a human cannonball, and the reasons you shouldn't date a ghost.
Another thing I love about Demetri Martin's humor is his ability to laugh at himself. He makes up ridiculous stories and tells them to his audience or tells us readers in his book. Even though the stories are generally untrue, they are still fun to listen to. It makes him seem more relatable as a comedian and a person.
"This is a Book" is really light reading, and really fun to read. Some of the stories aren't exactly appropriate for young children, nor would the children probably understand them, so I wouldn't recommend reading it to them. Adults, however, could breeze through this book and laugh out loud while doing it. Martin's humor is funny in any form and I really think a lot of people that I know would enjoy this book. His show, however, was cancelled, which upset me greatly, although you can probably find some of his stand-up acts on Youtube.
So there you have it. Demetri Martin is funny, talented, and just flat-out ridiculous. His sketches and skits make me die with laughter (metaphorically, of course). I fully recommend everyone buy his book and they will enjoy it as much as I did.
