... but goodies. Music from the 1990s was the beginning of boy bands, pop sensations, and solo artists like Justin Timberlake. As I am one of the "90s kids" that so many people on Facebook and Twitter post about, I feel that I should pay tribute to these musical pioneers that led the way for so many "great" performers in today's music industry. In all honesty, I wish we could return to the 90s, as the music was less raunchy, the performers less autotuned, and songs just better in general.
The first artist I want to talk about is actually two groups: N Sync and the Backstreet Boys. The Backstreet Boys came first in 1993, while N Sync was next in 1995. These two bands were the beginning of boy bands. They are pretty much the reason that there is a One Direction today. Also, N Sync and the Backstreet Boys' music was better than anything today. Honestly, listen to this and watch the video. They were creative and they could actually sing. Not saying One Direction can't sing, but it seems like now that they're in the public eye, they do less singing and more catering to their fangirls. But I digress.
The next artist that needs to be discussed is Oasis. They seem to be something of a one-hit wonder with their 1995 song "Wonderwall," which came out the year I was born. It is still listened to frequently today, and it is extremely popular for aspiring guitarists. They're a good band, though. They have unique vocals, catchy melodies, and a stunning profoundness in their music.
A lot of bands and artists in this period had one-hit wonders, or just one song that stands out from the rest ("Wannabe," "Ice Ice Baby," "Sex and Candy"). Sometimes it seems like these songs and artists lit a torch and the 2000s just extinguished it with awful music, raunchy lyrics (not saying everything in the 90s was pure and clean), or trainwrecks of artists. Some of the artists now are good, but it takes a while to find them, like searching for hay in a needlestack (intentional). Just keep your eyes out for new good music, or do what I do, and listen to older music from time to time.
