(I realize I'm a bit late on the Skyrim deal, but I just got the game off Steam because it was finally on sale.)
Let me begin by saying that I have played this game before, in fact I have been playing it for about 4 months, but I only recently obtained my own copy of the game. My first word to describe this game: beautiful. The art and the music were gorgeous and the game-play itself, while a bit lacking in some aspects, was still fun to experience. I've enjoyed the 33 hours I've put into this game so far. My characters have become like Barbie dolls, in the respect that they have many professions and skills. Skyrim has been a wonderful gaming experience.
Skyrim is basically a young man or woman of a varying race (there are 10 in total) and their quest to defeat Alduin, a dragon that has been thrust into a world where all dragons are thought to be extinct. The player can defeat lesser dragons, join a guild of thieves, become an assassin for a cult, join a group of honorable hunters, and many other things. They can even get married in the game. While the story itself seems a bit fast-paced, as people ask you to do tasks for them without even knowing who you are and not many of the quests seem very long, there is still much to do in the land of Skyrim.
The soundtrack to this game is so breathtaking that I have to sit through the song on the main page of the game. It's so wonderful that it's almost haunting. It's a powerful song and ties the whole game together (listen to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BUIXq8oblY). Without that song, I don't think the game would have been nearly as successful. Well, okay it probably would be, but I would be upset. Let's talk about the art in the game now. The scenery was amazing. At "night" in the game, there would be stars out and the occasional aurora up above you. The animals looked almost realistic, and there was even weather in the game.
I've been playing this for quite a while, but I still enjoy it immensely. I'm not even close to finishing the main storyline, though, because there are so many other quests to do in Skyrim. So far, I've joined the Thieves' Guild, the Companions, and the College of Winterhold, and I've met immortal beings and done tasks for them. I've made a few questionable decisions, but have been an overall good person in the game. That's what's amazing about Skyrim. It's shaped by what you do. There isn't a set storyline, there are thousands of choices to make and factions to join. The only question now is: which one do you choose?
Also, I totally give this game a 9/10 for its amazing attention to detail and beautiful game-play.
